De overbrenging van een scooter bestaat uit de variateur (ookwel vario genoemd) de koppeling gemonteerd op de poulies welke aangrijpt in een koppelingshuis , een v-snaar en een vertanding met een bepaalde tandwielverhouding. De vario is voorzien van variorollen welke in verschillende gewichten leverbaar zijn om de scooter af te stellen op toerental. Het toerental van de scooter wordt dus door de het gewicht van de rolletjes en de sterkte van de drukveer bepaald.
