De ontsteking van een scooter verzorgt samen met de bobine/cdi unit voor een hoge spanning waardoor een vonk wordt verkregen middels een bougie. Een standaard ontsteking heeft een zwaar vliegwiel, voor een betere gasreactie kan een binnenrotor (raceontsteking) geplaatst worden echter hebben deze vaak geen verlichting. Er zijn enkele binnenrotors met licht voorziening zoals de HPI met licht en de MVT digital direct.
